this whole thing started when my co-workers and i were talking about BTS (a few months ago). i asked them what the best or their favorite BTS albums were and one of them said BE was in her top three. i was shocked. while I like a few songs on BE, the idea that someone would actually rank it above literally anything is crazy (sorry to all BE lovers). her reasoning was because it was released around the time she got into BTS which is understandable. we talked the rest of the shift about BTS albums and songs which as inspired me to rank my favorite top five BTS albums.
a little more context; i got into BTS in 2015-2016. i've been a BTS fan for ten years now. my peak army phase was 2016-2020. since then, my interest in BTS has been on and off over time. but every time i think i'm over BTS, i actually realize i'm not and i don't know if i ever will be. perhaps it's the nostalgia. basically, BTS is extremely dear to me and played a big role in my childhood. as i'm updating this, they plan to release a new album soon! and i plan to see them in las vegas in may aaaaaa. i really have no expections as to what the sound will be. it better be good.
starting with my offical tier list:
my top three BTS albums are Wings, Dark & Wild, and The Most Beautiful Moment In Life: Pt.2. for this ranking, i will be excluding albums that are basically combinations of two or just the same album, but with one more song. So Love Yourself: Answer, The Most Beautiful Moment in Life: Young Forever, and You Never Walk Alone. my reason for not including these in my ranking is because it makes more sense to me and feels more balanced. Like yeah Wings plus Spring Day would win etc. so i'm just not gonna count it...so yeah. i'll be going into depth for only my top six favorites! but before that i'll explain my reasoning for the other lower six rankings. bottom three ablums Map of the Soul: 7, BE, and Map of the Soul: Persona, are just not as good as their other albums sorry. while i love Map of the Soul: 7 for nostalgia, Filter, and My Time, it didn't make it. apologies to all BE and Persona lovers out their i don't gaf about those two albums. O!RUL8,2 was so close to being in my top six. Love Yourself: Tear i know is "logically" better than Her, but also i feel like it's better in every emotional way. Also Her means so much to me so. And 2 Cool 4 Skool i fucking love and i almost put it higher, but there's just not enough songs to compare against the others.
if i was forced to chose bewteen Love Yourself: Tear vs. Her, i'm chosing Her every time. And i know thatTear has more good songs, but i'd rather jump than live in a world without Serendipity. if my answer wasn't a big clue my BTS bias is Jimin btw haha. if there is a day that i experience Serendipity live, that will be my last day alive because i will die. other songs i love are DNA (idgaf), Dimple and Pied Piper. This album is also extremely nostalgic to me. i would go as far to say the most nostalgic for me in a tie with Wings. the concept and visuals too can we please just admire how beautiful it is. something about this album is magical and puberty aside- my brain was altered chemically upon it's release.
The Most Beautiful Moment in Life: Forever Young is one of the best albums...ever. for these two i decided to talk about them together. musically i mean i don't really need to explain it's just too good. this era of BTS conceptually and aesthetically is the most beautiful. the music videos and storytelling are truely spectacular. i literally love every song on the albums. to name a few of my favorites: House of Cards, Run, Ma City, Butterfly, Hold Me Tight, Love Is Not Over, Silver Spoon. this album(s) feature so many iconic songs that i have many fond memories with. when i was like eleven or ten would i read/watch BTS fanfiction youtube (yes, youtube). Silver Spoon or Whalien 52 instrumentals would always be playing in the background.
easily one the best BTS albums. conceptually and musically Skool Luv Affair exceeds. Boy in Love is one of their best title tracks. not a single bad song on the album as well. as an album it's by far one the strongest just as a body of work. i really just love everything about this album and concept and era and music and looks ugh. my favorite songs on the album would have to be Tomorrow, Just One Day, Cypher Pt.2: Triptych, Spine Braker, and Purpose.
Dark & Wild showcases some of BTS's best work both musically and conceptually. the flow of the album itself too. this BTS era is so iconic. this was so close to being my number one favorite BTS album and honestly...deep down maybe it is.
Cypher Pt.3 is the best of the four I DON'T CARE! i seriously love every single song. my favorite songs on the album include Rain, Embarrassed, 24/7=Heaven, Cypher Pt.3: Killer, and Let Me Know. but Hip Hop Phile is my ultimate favorite song. nobody gets Dark & Wild like me. i believe this album should be in everyones top three, but anyways.
Wings is BTS's best album i don't gaf ! ! the people were anticipating and BTS delivered. i became a hardcore BTS fan for this comeback/album, so sentimental value is apart of my reason, but even nostalgia aside i think i would still consider this their best or at least my favorite album. when i listended to Blood Sweat & Tears ten years ago my life changed. you just had to understand and be there i'm telling you. this is their strongest album conceptually. i'm so serious about Wings do not play with me. never has a piece of art impacted me as much as this album has. and you know i did question 'am i really putting this album above all the others?' and yes, yes i am. from the intro to the outro it's perfect. one of my dreams in life is to see this work preformed live in completion. i did not see them on their Wings tour in 2016 unfortunately i had no money and wasn't even a teen. my favorite songs on the album: Interlude: Wings, Lie, 21st Century Girl, Intro: Boy Meets Evil, Lost. i just really love Wings...
okay so that was my favorite BTS albums ranked. I'll most defintely be sharing my song tier list. Also my rankings for other k-pop artists as well mwhahah.
